Colored fish on Goldfish Street in Hong Kong.

Goldfish Street in Hong Kong.

Goldfish Street in Hong Kong.

Tung Choi Street is on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong. In the Southern section you will find the “Ladies Market”, one of the most well-known street markets in Hong Kong. You’ll find various kinds of products available for cheap prices. The northern section is famous for selling thousands little fish right on the street and therefore is known as “Goldfish Street” or “Goldfish Market”.

Same fish, different color.

Same fish (Jelly Bean Parrot), different color.

Even though I don’t agree with the way most of these fish are sold (in plastic bags), it’s one hell of an experience to go there. If you’ve ever been to China, you’ll realize that the people there are not too colorful (like for example in India where every Sari is a different color), and therefore they like everything around them to shine even more. It’s no problem to make a fish turn pink instead of yellow … you simply color them. Some of them even have Chinese signs on their scales … unreal is all I can say to that!

The fish in the bags are not goldfish but Jelly Bean Parrot’s. Stunning fish and yes it is very cruel.
