In the winter of 2014, three friends set out on a self supported ride, looking for nothing more than a truly genuine experience. The goal: to circumnavigate one of the most wonderful and wicked mountain ranges in the world – the Huayhuash, by bicycle.

This was all a spur of the moment idea; part of the vicious cycle of making every adventure more thrilling than the last. January was the off-season, or rainy season, for the Andes so the wilderness would be completely desolate. The three friends hoped to be the second group to complete this trek on bikes. However, they underestimated the relentless weather they would encounter as they traveled for a week above treeline.

The friends tagged first descents down rocky couloirs and 16.000ft passes, watched sunrises against the tallest peaks in the country, and slept to the sounds of serac fall at night.

In the end, they didn’t quite make it as far as they had hoped. Between rain storms, concussions and waving guns the Huayhuash had ripped at their eager ambitions. A sense of wonder was fulfilled and the friendship of three adventure loving friends was reinforced. Huayhuash is the story of genuine adventure and the challenges that come along with it.

If you’re interested, you can read all about their adventure here.

It is extremely rare to find a film that is … perfect; when cinematography and writing are equally excellent. This is what Dan Riordan and Dana Saint (aka gnarly bay productions) accomplished in A Story for Tomorrow. How? Well, it’s a combination of several things: The film is a modern day (travel) fairy tale, filled with lots of interesting characters and creatures, expansive deserts, lush forests and snow capped mountains of Chile and Patagonia. Plus the great voice of Castulo Guerra, who is the icing on the cake.

For me, the most important thing is the way in which it appeals to the viewer/traveller. In a way, we’re all looking for some sort of solution, right?! The joy and energy in this production seems to hint that there actually is an answer somewhere out there …

I think it is the most outstanding, breathtaking and heart-stirring travel film I’ve seen in a really long time. Watch it full-screen, all the way to the end and with all you heart & soul.

Holi is also known as the Festival of Colors. It’s a Hindu event that celebrates the spring equinox. For the occasion the participants throw on themselves colored powders. The result is visually sublime and illustrates perfectly the spring which is an explosion of lives, colors and scents. The agency Variable has truly done an amazing job showing us a slow motion vision of this event! I’d give anything to see this for myself and I hope that I get the chance some day…

The world is fascinating. People and cultures inspire us. Sadly, the fast paced lifestyles of our generation result in many not taking the necessary step back to soak in the existing world around us. The goal with this film is to help viewers further appreciate and take notice of the beauty in life & culture that lies within our world…

…so the next time you notice something that strikes you as interesting, stop for a second, start powering on your camera, think about why it’s unique, and snap the shot before you miss it. Life is extraordinary. Embrace it.

This week I would like to share a video by Daniel Klein & Mirra Fine. Daniel is the founder, editor, producer and director & Mirra the cameragirl/co-producer of The Perennial Plate. This series promotes Daniel’s passions of food, filmmaking and activism.

After learning to cook at his mother’s bed and breakfast, Daniel went on to work and train at many of the world’s top restaurants. His culinary education brought him to Spain, France, England, India and New York, where he has worked and trained. After graduating from NYU, Daniel also pursued a career in film. He has directed, filmed, edited and produced projects on various issues including the development industry in Africa and oil politics. Daniel’s most recent film “What are we doing here?” has aired on TV, in theaters and at numerous festivals around the world.

So, since you all know that I love food (especially Asian food), it was clear to me that I’d have to share this video with you. It made me hungry the first time I watched it, and it still does today…

The Christmas Holidays are that time of the year, when everything stands still; the streets are empty, the phone doesn’t ring for days and nobody feels bad about doing absolutely nothing. But … it’s also a time to think about all sorts of stuff.

I tried to spend my time wisely, and I think I managed all right: I tough about a way to get out of the daily 9 to 5 routine. It won’t take much longer, and then I’m off exploring foreign countries again. 2012 is going to be a good year – I can feel it. I usually don’t make any New Year’s resolutions but this year is different: In 2012, I want to quit my job (due to money issues, this part has to wait until mid 2013), travel, shoot tons of photos & start our project “Make People See” and “Lets Travel Somewhere”.

Until then, I enjoy watching inspiring movies (documentaries will be featured in another post) that bring out the wanderlust in me. And now I’d like to share these with you.

Starting in China, then flying further South to Malaysia, Christmas on an Indonesian island (á la Robinson Crusoe) and ending the year with a motorbike trip in Laos. Not bad huh? :D

Since we’re really excited about this, and in order to get attuned, we wanted to share these three videos by Vincent Urban & Clemens Krüger with you.

Unfortunately I’ve been to Vietnam only once but that trip was also one of the most memorable ever! I can still see Sapa with its amazing rice paddies all the way in the North near the Chinese border, or the busy street life of Hanoi and of course the beautiful Ha Long Bay, as well as the train ride down to the capital Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam is a wonderful country and I can’t wait to get back there again.

So since I’m missing Vietnam a lot right now, here’s a really awesome video of Leon Visser‘s summer vacation to this terrific country (filmed with a Panasonic GH2). What I like about this video … well everything! The atmosphere, the music and of course the images…
