I Feel Like Surfing.

I literally feel like getting out there. I’d do anything for a nice swim in the ocean! Feeling the water & sun on my skin would make me the happiest person right now … Yes, as you can see I’m so up for leaving this very minute! Here’s a little insight on my summer vacation (then you’ll probably understand why I’m so desperate): it consisted of one single dip in the ocean! Just one! How come? Cause the weather was bloody bad. But I guess I should be happy anyway – right now the weather situation in Thailand is much much worse. Still, swimming in the rain is fun and all but it wasn’t the kind of action I was hoping for :/

Anyway, enough of that. Since the weather is pretty shitty in Vienna as well, I wanted to post something to cheer me (and maybe you too) up. So here are a couple of our best surfing photos from Tahiti, Brazil & Indonesia. Wanderlust caution for all you surfers & water rats out there!!!

The waves at Teahupoo are one of the strongest and toughest to ride in the world. It is known for the heavy & glassy waves offshore, often reaching up to 20 meters (70 feet). It is the site of the annual Billabong Pro Tahiti surf competition. You might also know Teahupoo thanks to pro-surfer Laird Hamilton. On August 17, 2000 he was credited with surfing the “heaviest wave” ever ridden, documented in the film “Riding Giants”.

The surfers on the photos below make it look as if riding these massive waves is nothing…yet one single mistake can lead to a disaster.

Teahupoo in Tahiti is known for its surf break and heavy, glassy waves offshore, often reaching 2 to 3 m and sometimes up to 7 meters.

Teahupoo is also renowned for the consistent number of barrels it delivers. It is a rewarding location and is widely regarded as being on the ‘must-surf’ list of every enthusiastic surfer.

Teahupoo is a reef break. The swells mainly break left, but the outer reef also creates right breaks that surfers must be cautious of when paddling out.

Only experienced surfers in peak physical condition should attempt to surf the waves at Teahupoo.

Pro-surfer Dennis Tihara knows how to tame these waves at Teahupoo.

It takes much practice to escape the wave at the right moment. Hheavy waves combined with a shallow shoreline can result in serious injuries and sometimes even death in a wipeout.

The Judging Tower At Teahupoo, Tahiti.

This is the judge tower right in front of the surfbreak in Teahupoo. This tower is built every year new for the Billabong Pro Tahiti surf competition.

On the photos below, it looks so peaceful but the waves can be very forceful at times. The judging tower was smashed into pieces a few years ago, when the weather was really bad before the competition.
